Career Counseling and Planning

Finding the right career can be tough! If you want to figure out which careers align with your interests and values, use Focus 2 Career to learn more about yourself and potential careers.

FOCUS 2 CAREER guides students through a reliable, intuitive career & education decision-making model to help them choose majors offered at Marion Technical College, explore occupations & make informed career decisions. Visit Career Services for a one-on-one counseling session to help find your dream career.

Another option in your career exploration is “What Can I Do With This Major?” This platform shows you the jobs that correspond with your intended major. What Can I Do With This Major? features 100 major profiles with information on common career paths, different types of employers that hire in the field, and strategies to maximize opportunities.

Handshake

Handshake is a powerful and exclusive platform that will help you achieve your professional goals. Feel free to explore internships and other positions locally and across the globe!

We’ve already created an account for you - all you have to do is click on the logo and log in with your MTC email and password to activate your account.

 

Make Handshake work for you:

• When activating your account, set your preferences for the Types of jobs you’re interested in, Cities you’d like to work in or near, and at least 3 Roles that interest you. Employers are 5 times more likely to contact students who have these 3 elements complete!
• Upload your resume to your profile. Handshake makes it simple by reading the information on your resume and writing it to your profile for you - easy peasy!

With our Handshake account, you can…

• Search and apply for jobs/internships;
• Search for employers and find out when they post new jobs or attend one of our virtual Career Fairs.
• Check out the Career Centerpage to schedule appointments for mock interviews, résumé reviews, etc.
• Search for upcoming events.
• And much more!

On-Campus Career Closet

 

The Career Closet is located on campus in the Alber Student Center. This resource is available for both Marion Technical College and Ohio State Marion students. For students looking for professional clothing, this is the place. Whether you need clothes for an upcoming interview or a new job, you should be able to find some clothing here. 

Sometimes, we host pop-up events, so you might see the Closet in various locations on campus. Students can be part of the Career Closet Club as well. For more information on joining the Club, contact us at careers@mtc.edu. This club is jointly shared between MTC and OSUM students and advisors.

Career Services Resource Hub

Accessing career information and job postings is as easy as finding your classes. If you need more information on career-related items during off hours, the Career Services Resource Hub is available 24/7. The Resource Hub is located in Brightspace and looks like your other classes in the platform.

To access the Resource Hub, log into Brightspace and go to All Courses. From there, you can go through the modules just like any other course.
