Technology Loan Program
About the Technology Loan Program
The MTC Technology Loan Program provides temporary access to laptops, calculators, hotspots, webcams, and other essential technology for currently enrolled MTC students who need support due to financial hardship, device failure, or course requirements.
Loans are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Submitting a request does not guarantee availability; you may be placed on a waitlist. Priority is given to first-time borrowers.
Using a loaner laptop
In today’s college environment, students are expected to have their own laptop. Most
courses require regular online access, specialized software, and work outside of class.
While MTC’s loaner program can help in temporary situations, it is not designed to
replace personal technology in the long-term. If purchasing a laptop is difficult,
financial assistance and community resources may be available to help. See below for
more information.
Requesting Equipment
Complete the online Request Form to document your need and check availability.

Technology Loan Program Policies
Loaner equipment is intended for academic use; it must be used in accordance with all MTC computer policies.
Pickup and Return
- Equipment must be picked up and returned to authorized Testing Center staff in Bryson Hall 193/197.
- Staff will issue a receipt at pickup and return.
- Do not leave equipment with other MTC employees unless specifically authorized.
Loan Periods and Renewals
- Equipment may be borrowed for up to 60 days.
- Students are expected to purchase or repair their own equipment before the loan period ends.
- Renewal requests are considered only in exceptional circumstances and depend on availability.
- Most renewals require the current device to be returned before another loan can be issued.
Purchasing Your Own Laptop
- Review MTC's laptop requirements before purchasing a device.
- Financial assistance is available. Start with Financial Aid by visiting the One Stop or emailing financial-aid@mtc.edu. Then contact the Student Resource Navigator Chelsea Dingus by visiting the Connections Center, Bryson 143 or emailing dingusc@mtc.edu
- Computers to avoid: Chromebooks, tablets, and iPads do not meet minimum requirements. Apple devices may have limited compatibility with required software. Flexible "2-in-1" devices may be more prone to damage.
Lost or Damaged Equipment
- Devices and cases must be kept clean and smoke-free.
- Cleaning or replacement fees may apply if equipment is returned dirty or with strong odors.
- Report damaged equipment immediately by emailing loanerlaptops@mtc.edu.
- We will try to repair the device first. However, if the equipment is lost or cannot be repaired, students are responsible for replacement costs.
Failure to Return Equipment
- A Business Office hold may be placed on student accounts for unreturned equipment.
- Students may be unable to register for or attend classes until the balance is paid or the equipment is returned.
- After 90 days, unpaid balances may be referred for collection.
