Micro-certs

The purpose of micro-certs is to obtain a short-term certificate that can be completed in less than one year and that leads to an industry-recognized credential for an in-demand job.  If you are ready to pursue one of Marion Tech’s micro-certs, please apply now as a new or returning student if you are coming back to MTC.

What micro-certs are available?

Business

Digital Image Specialist - Spring only

The 3-credit-hour micro-cert Digital Image Specialist can lead to the in-demand career of a Marketing Designer.  The required course is OIS1620 Digital Image Manipulation.   

You can build upon the Digital Image Specialist micro-cert to complete a Web Development Certificate (total 30 credit hours including OIS1620) or an Associate of Applied Business degree with a Marketing Media Major (total of 63 credit hours including OIS1620).

Real Estate Sales - Fall or Spring

MTC offers the four courses that are required to become a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in the state of Ohio. Becoming a licensed Real Estate Salesperson requires completing required coursework, meeting contract hour requirements, and passing the Real Estate Salesperson examination.

The four courses are as follows:

REA1010 Real Estate Principles & Practices - 3 credit hours

REA1100 Real Estate Law - 3 credit hours

REA1200 Real Estate Finance - 2 credit hours

REA1300 Real Estate Appraisal - 2 credit hours

If you would like to continue your studies at MTC to become a Real Estate Broker, you may decide to continue your studies and pursue an Associate of Applied Business degree in Business Management with a Real Estate Option.  The four courses needed to be a real estate salesperson are a part of this curriculum and would fulfill 10 of the required 63 credit hours.

Engineering

Industrial Robotics - Fall or Spring

This 7-credit-hour micro-cert program will provide the education and training necessary to operate, program, diagnose, and repair industrial robots.  The required courses are:

EET1000 Introduction to Electricity  - 2 credit hours

EET2400 Robotics I - 2 credit hours

EET2460 Robotics II  - 3 credit hours

Once completed, you can continue your studies with a Robotics and Automatic Technology certificate (7 of the required 33 credit hours would be fulfilled) or an Associate of Technical Studies in Robotics and Automation Engineering Technology, an individualized program to meet your needs.

Semiconductor Manufacturing  - Fall or Spring

A 10-credit-hour micro-cert program provides the education and training to gain entry-level employment in semiconductor manufacturing or related industry. 

The required courses are:

MFT1050 Semiconductor 101 - 4 credit hours

MFT1100 Manufacturing Processes - 3 credit hours

MFT1060 Intro to Vacuum Systems - 3 credit hours

Once completed, you can continue your studies and work towards completing a certificate or a degree in Engineering Technology at MTC. 

PLC Operations - Fall or Spring

This micro-cert provides students and working professionals with the basic knowledge and skills to operate, program, and diagnose a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based control system.  This 7-hour program includes the following courses for a total of 7 credit hours:

EET1000 Introduction to Electricity - 2 credit hours

EET2010 Intro to Programmable Controllers - 2 credit hours

EET2060 Advanced Programmable Controllers - 3 credit hours

You will have the option to continue your studies for a Smart Manufacturing Certificate once the micro-cert is complete. (7 of the required 33 credit hours would be fulfilled) and then on to an Associate of Applied Science in Smart Manufacturing Technology.  Other options for furthering your education would include an Associate of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology (7 of the required 64 credit hours would be fulfilled) or an Associate of Technical Studies in Robotics and Automation Engineering Technology (7 of the required 65 credit hours would be fulfilled)

Certified SolidWorks Associate Begins - Fall

This micro-cert provides students with fundamental skills for creating and reading engineering drawings and using SolidWorks, a computer-aided design software that creates 3D models of engineering components and assemblies. The student will have the opportunity to take the Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) exam at the conclusion of the second course, Computer-Aided Design. This micro-cert includes the following courses for a total of 5 credit hours.

MET1020 Engineering Drawings and Diagrams- Fall - 2 credit hours - no pre-req

MET1200 Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)- Spring - 3 credit hours - pre-req is MET1020

You will have the option to continue your studies for an Associate of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology once the micro-cert is complete. (5 of the required 65 credit hours would be fulfilled).

FANUC Robotics Begins - Spring

This micro-cert provides students with comprehensive training on the installation/setup, programming, and troubleshooting of the FANUC industrial robot Handling Tool software package and vision system. Upon successful completion of this micro-cert, the student will receive a FANUC Handling Tool Operations and Programming and FANUC iRVision Operation and Programming - 2D certification. This micro-cert includes the following courses for a total of 4 credit hours.

EET1301 Robot Handling Tool Operations and Programming- Spring (1st 8 weeks) - 2 credit hours - no pre-req

SMT2000 iRVision Operation and Programming-2D- Spring (2nd 8 weeks) - 2 credit hours - pre-req is EET1301

You will have the option to continue your studies for an Associate of Applied Science in Smart Manufacturing Technology once the micro cert is complete. (4 of the required 64 credit hours would be fulfilled).

Health

Phlebotomy - Fall/Spring

Phlebotomy is the process of drawing blood from patients for various medical purposes, such as laboratory testing, blood donation, or medical procedures.  A phlebotomy certificate opens up opportunities for employment in healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, laboratories, blood donation centers, and other medical facilities. The program is 6 hours and consists of MLT1010, MLT1030, and MLT1400; all are 2-credit-hour courses. If you have questions about the additional application requirements, which are a background check, drug screen, immunization records, etc., contact Caitlin Stansbery, Director of Medical Sciences Technology, by emailing stansberyc@mtc.edu.

If you want to continue your studies at Marion Tech to become a Medical and Clinical Technician, you should explore our Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.  This degree leads to an in-demand career in healthcare.

State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) - Fall/Spring/Summer

Are you interested in helping people in a medical field?  Becoming an STNA is a great way to start!  This micro-cert can lead to in-demand jobs as an STNA, a home health aide, or a patient care assistant.  The only requirement is to complete the NUR1003 Nurse Assistant Certification Prep class for 3 credit hours, which will prepare you to sit for the external examination that would qualify you as an STNA.  Once you complete this course, you can continue with the Associate of Applied Science degree to become an RN, followed by the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (we’re the first community college in Ohio to offer this program!).

Sterile Processing - Fall/Spring/Summer

Sterile processing technicians play a crucial role in surgery. As a technician, you would be responsible for the cleaning and sterilizing surgical equipment before and after procedures.  The program is 10 hours and consists of SPC1000, SPC1100, and SPC1200, allowing you to sit for your CRCST certification in just 16 weeks. IT

MS Office Fundamentals - Fall start

One of the in-demand careers around the MTC area is an Administrative Assistant.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that the most recent median annual wage for administrative assistants was $39,850.  For individuals interested in becoming one, we have developed this 7-hour micro-cert, which consists of the following courses:

OIS1240 Computer Applications - 3 credit hours

OIS1260 PowerPoint - 1 credit hour

OIS1340 Advanced Excel & Data Visualization - 3 credit hours

You can continue your studies by pursuing an Office Administration Technical Certificate (4 of the 30 required hours would be fulfilled) or an Associate of Applied Business degree.

Networking Cisco Option - Spring start

This 9-hour micro-cert can lead to a career as a network administrator.  The required courses are:

CIT1611 Introduction to Networks - 3 credit hours

CIT2622 Intermediate Networking - 3 credit hours

CIT2632 Advanced Networking - 3 credit hours

These 9 hours are a part of our Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Information Technology – Cyber Security and Networking.  With this degree, you can pursue career opportunities such as cyber security analyst, network engineer, or an IT technician, to name a few.
