Military Veterans

Military and Veterans

Thank you to all veterans and active-duty military personnel for your service to our country! We are here to help you transition from soldier to student. In fact, Marion Tech has been recognized as a public college in Ohio that is supportive and inclusive of military-connected students by The Collegiate Purple Star Award.

How to Apply

As a veteran or active duty student, we have staff that will help you enroll at MTC. Contact the Office of Admission at 740-389-4636 or enroll@mtc.edu. Your application fee will be waived.

  • In June of 2014, Governor Kasich signed House Bill 488, which includes providing priority registration for veterans and service members. At MTC, priority registration means veterans and service members can register beginning at 9 am on Tuesday before open registration begins. Once open registration begins, veterans and service members will compete with all other students for class spaces.

Veterans Benefits and Transition Act Policy

Marion Technical College, in accordance with the Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018, will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, or the requirement that a Chapter 31 or Chapter 33 recipient borrow additional funds to cover the individual’s inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement of payment by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. This policy is limited to tuition funds paid by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.

Class Schedules

Some online sections may require students to take the exams in person at a proctored site, either on campus or at another agreed-upon site convenient for the student and approved by the instructor. Please contact your advisor for more information.

Education Benefits

We have a VA Certifying Official who will help you with your education benefits. Contact Hannah Hartman at 740-386-4118. Learn more about using your veteran’s benefits.

Transfer Credit

Your military training, experience, and coursework will count for credit at MTC. We use the American Council on Education guide to translate military education into a credit that will be applied toward your major or general education requirements, when possible. Contact: Carey Wolf, wolfc@mtc.edu or 740-386-4104.

Career Planning

We can help you with career counseling, resume development, interviewing skills, and job searching strategies. Contact Kristi Butler at 740-386-4110 to start building your career strategy.

Disability Services

We are committed to serving students with disabilities equally. Our Center for Student Success and Engagement (CSSE) houses the Office of Disabilities and will advocate on behalf of students for reasonable accommodations for physical, mental, learning, and/or emotional disabilities.

We strongly encourage veteran or active duty students with a disability to contact the Office of Disabilities by emailing DS@mtc.edu or stopping by room BR 183F, located in the SRC during the admissions process.

Counseling

We employ a licensed professional clinical counselor to help students address personal challenges and barriers to academic success. Consultations with the counselor are confidential and free to MTC students. For more information, visit the Center for Student Success and Engagement or contact Mike Stuckey at 740-386-4171
