Dr. G. Scott and Pam Drew created a new scholarship to support Marion Technical College nursing students. Scott and Pam are both first-generation college students who have seen the quality of Marion Tech graduates and know the value a little help and encouragement can make.
“Someone saved us and said, ‘Go to college,’” Dr. Drew recalled. “It can be really intimidating when you’re the first in your family to go to college.”
“People walk out of Marion Technical College with jobs in their field,” said Pam Drew. “When you go to college, you expect to have a good life. These programs have a great return on investment, an excellent path.”
Personal Experience with Nursing Students and Graduates
A personal experience with Marion Tech students highlighted the importance of Marion Tech. Dr. Drew’s mother was in hospice and two Marion Tech nursing students were assigned to help. They developed a personal bond with the family.
“Mom was their first hospice patient. When she was dying, they came at midnight on a Saturday to be with her, even though it wasn’t their shift. They even helped prepare her body to go to the funeral home. They really cared,” said Dr. Drew. “They also talked about their experience at Marion Tech. Their passion for Marion Tech’s mission really came through.”
Dr. Drew has hired a number of Marion Tech graduates in his dermatology practice.
“We are always impressed with the quality of these staff hires,” Pam Drew said. “Scott and I are so blessed. We both came from humble beginnings. College gave us both that leg up. I love knowing we are helping give another student a leg up!”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that field is growing 6% through 2033, which is faster than average. The vast majority of Marion Tech graduates stay in the community
“We want students to leave with little to no debt and get good-paying jobs. Scholarships are a huge part of that,” said Dr. Ryan McCall. “We are so grateful for Dr. Scott and Pam Drew and other donors for helping students get to next.”
Many In-Demand Health Care Options
Marion Tech works to connect graduates with in-demand jobs that are growing, including surgical technicians, occupational therapy assistant, physical therapist assistant and medical lab technicians. Newer short-term programs include massage therapy and exercise science.
