April 14, 2023

Dr. Ryan McCall, president of Marion Technical College, was recognized as one of the top leaders in the nation by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). As a finalist for CEO of the year, McCall was recognized at the AACC Awards of Excellence at the annual convention in Denver, Colorado on April 3, 2023. Out of nearly 1,200 community college presidents nationwide, McCall was selected as one of five finalists due to his excellent leadership, service, advocacy, community engagement, commitment to students and employees, strategic planning, and professionalism.

“He is a leader among his peers,” said Dr. Amy Adams, Vice President of Planning and Advancement at Marion Technical College. “We are excited that he was recognized for his work serving our community at a national level.”

“As a leader in the health care community in Marion, I came to appreciate how he sought out information as he made decisions and admired the way in which he led his team through this challenging time,” said Curt Gingrich, President of OhioHealth Marion General Hospital, in his nominating letter, describing McCall’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gingrich also cited McCall’s efforts to help students who are struggling because of challenges outside the classroom with housing, food insecurity, child care, and transportation needs. McCall added a student resource navigator in the college’s connection center to help students overcome barriers and reach their goals.

Furthermore, Gingrich commended Marion Tech’s work to help make sure students graduate with the in-demand skills needed in the local workforce, such as the new surgical tech program that fills a significant need at OhioHealth.

“It is truly humbling to receive this honor,” said Dr. McCall. “I’m proud to have been given the opportunity to earn the trust of Marion Technical College students, faculty, staff, and the community. I look forward to serving them for many years to come.”
