Drop-in Hours – NEW!

The Student Resource Center will now be offering regular drop-in hours Monday through Thursday, 10 am – 3 pm (starting May 6th).  Drop-in hours are intended for students who have quick questions or concerns they want to discuss that take less than 15 minutes.  Drop-in meetings are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and students will meet with the advisor on duty, not necessarily their assigned academic advisor.  At busy times of the semester, there may be a long wait, so please plan accordingly.  The SRC reserves the right to stop check-in for drop-ins early based on how many students are waiting.  On rare occasions, drop-in hours may be canceled due to staff availability.

What can you see an advisor about during drop-in hours?

  • Schedule adjustments (add/drop/change sections)
  • Current students who need to register for an upcoming term
  • Consultations on academic policies or procedures
  • Advice/referrals on academic or personal issues that are time-sensitive
  • Any other quick questions

What types of meetings still require an appointment?

  • New student enrollment/registration (initial appt – once registered, new students can utilize drop-ins)
  • Returning student registration (initial appt – once registered, returning students can utilize drop-ins)
  • Long-term academic planning/degree mapping
  • Warning and probation success plans
  • Reviewing application materials for admission to health programs
  • Any other topic you wish to discuss that will take more than 15 minutes

Attending college is one of the most exciting decisions you’ll ever make.  Your path is now marked with new information, new technology, and new challenges, and occasionally, you are going to need some help to find your way. MTC’s Student Resource Center (SRC) provides students, faculty, and staff with services and resources that promote academic success.

Advising

Your academic advisor is available to assist you with class registration, academic planning, career exploration, success strategies, and more.  Most new students will be assigned to a First Year Advisor in the Student Resource Center.  Students admitted to a limited enrollment program or returning students in good academic standing will be assigned to a faculty advisor in their program of study.  You are encouraged to meet with your advisor regularly with any questions or concerns you have.

Testing

The SRC administers the ACCUPLACER placement testing for Math, Reading, and Writing as well as the Technology Skills Test.  The ACCUPLACER is required unless the student has recent ACT scores on file or previous college course work in these areas.  More information on the ACCUPLACER can be found here. The SRC also administers make-up exams and provides testing accommodations for students with disabilities. These are free of charge for MTC students.  Non-MTC students can also use these services for a small fee.

Tutoring

The SRC offers FREE one-on-one, open table, and online tutoring for most general education courses and many program-specific courses.  If you are struggling in your courses, visit the Academic Success Center in 197 Bryson Hall or fill out a tutor request card in the SRC.  For more information on tutoring, click here.

Disability Services

To best meet the needs of students with disabilities, they are strongly encouraged to meet with Jenifer Montag at Disability Services by emailing DS@mtc.edu or stopping by room BR 183F, located in the SRC prior to the start of their first term.  The SRC will advocate on students’ behalf reasonable accommodations to reduce or remove the barriers to the learning environment the student may be experiencing because of the impact of the disability.  If you are experiencing difficulty because of a disability or condition, we are happy to meet with you as soon as possible.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling

MTC employs a licensed mental health counselor to discuss concerns and distractions that may be keeping you from achieving peak academic performance. Likewise, the SRC staff is well connected with local health care agencies that can provide more in-depth counseling services.
