Open Educational Resources (OER)

Zero Textbook Costs at MTC

What are Open Educational Resources (OER)?

Open educational resources (OER) are free and openly licensed educational materials that can be used for teaching, learning, research, and other purposes.

Open Education “…is the simple and powerful idea that the world’s knowledge is a public good and that technology in general and the Web, in particular, provide an extraordinary opportunity for everyone to share, use, and reuse knowledge.”

A growing number of MTC courses have opted to use open educational resources (OER) in place of costly textbooks. These courses with “zero textbook cost” have saved MTC students over $751,567.00 in textbook costs.

Thus far 51 courses utilize OERs at MTC. Also as you will see, several more are in the process of adding OERs to their classes.
