MTC Announces New Vice President

Marion Technical College is proud to announce Dr. Richard Prystowsky as the new Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services.Vice President Dr. Richard Prystowsky“With more than 30 years of experience in higher education and a passion for helping all students succeed, Dr. Prystowsky is a great addition to MTC,” said Dr. Ryan McCall, President of MTC. “I am confident he will help more students get to their next goal.”Dr. Prystowsky was selected from more than 100 candidates in a six month search. The position became open when Dr. Vicky Woods accepted the position of president at Washington State Community College.“I’m passionate about the mission of technical colleges: to open the doors to higher education and training for people who normally wouldn’t get a break,” said Dr. Prystowsky. “We assume everyone can do it and we want to give them a chance to prove it.”Dr. Prystowsky is proud of the way technical colleges make higher education affordable and accessible to everyone, including adult workers, parents, those who are the first in their family to attend college, and other diverse populations. He is dedicated to advancing diversity and inclusion at MTC.“I feel fortunate to be here. MTC has great people, dedicated and committed to the mission. You see that when you walk through the halls and talk to people,” Dr. Prystowsky stated. “One thing that impressed me – MTC clearly understands forward thinking. For example, cyber security is a booming field across the country. MTC’s new cyber security degree shows the college is on the front lines of growing fields. How exciting is that?”While still learning about MTC, Dr. Prystowsky brings his focus to the Marion campus: what is in the best interest of the student. He embraces the idea of a student-ready college, in which all students are recognized for the assets they bring to class.Dr. Prystowsky most recently worked as the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and Chief Academic Officer of Lansing Community College. He brings experience working on a shared campus, most recently as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer of the Central Ohio Technical College, which shares a campus with The Ohio State University at Newark.Dr. Prystowsky has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Arts from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. in English from the University of California Irvine. He also attended a short immersive program at the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education on Educational Management.Dr. Prystowsky is also excited to return to Ohio to be closer to his children and grandchildren, who are Ohio residents.MTC is currently hiring for a number of positions, from administrative to directors to faculty.
