Laptop Policy and Computer Requirements

As of 9/25/2020, MTC was notified by eCampus that it is currently experiencing difficulties with fulfilling laptop orders from Dell.  At this time, you may want to consider a different option in order to purchase a Dell computer if you so desire.

Process for Departments to Request Laptop Requirements

  1. Faculty are to assess course software needs for the next academic school year (fall-summer).
  2. Faculty are to report software and programming changes or if there will be no changes in software or programming to department director/department chairs on laptop specs form before April 15th for courses starting fall semester.
  3. Department director/ department chairs report laptop specs by May 15th to the Director of IT at MTC by May 15th, otherwise, it will be determined no change is needed.
  4. Director of IT researches models and receives price quotes before May 31st and makes decisions. (This gives departments a window if late reporting).
  5. Director of IT shares and submits computer models with specifications and pricing with Controller and e-Campus.
  6. E-Campus places computers on MTC bookstore page and laptops are drop shipped as soon as the student orders the laptop from e-Campus.
    1. MTC does not have to report the number of computers needed since computers are dropped shipped from the computer warehouse.

Purchase Eligibility

All MTC students are eligible to purchase one laptop through e-Campus with Financial Aid monies during their enrollment at Marion Technical College. Leftover Financial Aid after tuition is paid, will be held at e-Campus where the laptop can be purchased at the same time as textbooks, once Financial Aid is released to e-Campus. A credit card will be held on file through e-Campus to ensure payment for laptop by the student, should the students drop before the drop date, at that time the credit card will be charged for the laptop. While ‘Financial Aid’ funds can be used to purchase laptops, it is STRONGLY encouraged to purchase your required course materials first.

When placing orders, do know computers cannot be shipped to or held for pickup at Marion Technical College. Shipments come directly from the vendor. Orders are typically shipped within 5-7 business days.

Should the laptop be defective or break, the student will be referred to the Return and Service Policy provided by e-Campus. Should the student change majors and need a laptop with higher specs (i.e. Health Information Technology to Engineering), the student will be referred to the program advisor (Business Advisor in this example) to the new program advisor (Engineering Advisor in this example) where the new program advisor will verify the student’s computer meets the program requirements.
