Message from the President
Dear Staff and Students,
As you may recall, Ohio State Marion made the move to go 100% tobacco free in 2013. Marion Technical College is initiating steps to join them and make the entire Marion Campus a tobacco free location as of August 1, 2016.
Over the next 10 months, we plan to offer cessation classes, provide support, and engage with those who currently use tobacco to help develop healthy habits. We are truly concerned with the health and wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff. We acknowledge the findings of the Surgeon General that tobacco use in any form, active or passive, are significant health hazards. Along with the health hazards, we have had a growing problem with trash left behind by smokers, and complaints about individuals smoking near doorways and walkways. This policy will help to eliminate those issues.
*“Tobacco” is defined as all tobacco-derived or containing products, including but not limited to, cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, blunts, pipes, bidis, hookahs, chewing tobacco, dip, smokeless tobacco, snuff, nasal tobacco or any other items containing or reasonably resembling tobacco or tobacco products (e.g., herbs, other non-tobacco substances). It does not include any nicotine replacement therapy product intended for the purpose of cessation.
