Limited Enrollment Program

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Nursing Curriculum Changes

Effective Fall 2012, all students entering the nursing program will be required to meet the new criteria.

  • Beginning Algebra - MTH 1100 (this is a new course number) will be a degree requirement.  This will replace MTH 1015 Basic Algebra.
  • Dosage Calculations - NUR1190 will be a degree requirement.
  • Sociology - SOC 1220 will no longer be a degree requirement.  It can be used to fulfill the nursing elective for the program.

Nursing Mission Statement

Prepare students to be professional, caring Registered Nurses who promote optimal levels of wellness for individuals, families, and communities.

Degree: Associate of Applied Science

Two-year [seven quarters] full-time degree schedule of nursing, science, and general education courses; program completion may be extended over a maximum of five [5] years. MTC nursing students complete varied clinical experiences. Graduates are eligible to take the licensing examination of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse [R.N.].

Accreditation:

The Nursing (R.N.) Technology program is accredited by The National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC, 3343 Peach Tree Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA 30326, 404.975.5000. ) and approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing.

New Nursing Admission Requirements

Admission

  1. Final high school transcript [or GED results] and complete MTC Application for Admission [including nonrefundable application fee].
  2. American College Test [ACT] results.
    • To complete the program in a seven-term period, you must have a minimum composite score of 21.
    • Scores prior to 10/01/89 will be converted to current scale.
    • A minimum score of 18 is required for general program admission.
    • ACT requirement is waived for students with a B.S. or B.A. degree from a regionally- accredited college
  3. 2.5 accumulative GPA is the minimum for acceptance/continuation.
  4. Successful completion of high school biology, chemistry, and algebra is required. [MTC offers courses to meet these requirements if not completed in high school.]
  5. Satisfactory completion of Nurse Aide Training [NUR1000A] or state training for nurse aide is required before entry into NUR1010A – Foundations of Nursing I.
  6. Satisfactory completion of HLT1000A Health Terminology I and HLT1010A Health Terminology II (or equivalent) prior to entry into NUR1010A Foundations of Nursing I.
  7. Successful completion of a criminal background check prior to entry into NUR1010A Foundations of Nursing I. Link of Interest. Disqualifier List. pdf Nursing is a regulated profession.    The training, licensure and practice of nursing are subject to federal and state statutes, rule and regulations.  All students entering nursing will be subject to a background check.  Students with a criminal record may be ineligible for admission into the nursing program.  The submission of any false information to Marion Technical College shall be cause for immediate dismissal from the nursing program.  Students are to remain free of any convictions or drug related arrests while enrolled in the program.  Students are required to notify of Dean of Nursing, within one week of any convictions or drug related arrests.  Failure to do so may result in dismissal.
  8. Transfer students must qualify in accordance with current Nursing Department policies.
  9. Completed MTC Nursing [R.N.] Technology Program application.
  10. Information session with MTC’s Dean of Nursing [R.N.] Technology.
