Phlebotomy/Medical Laboratory Assistant External Certification Information
Students who complete designated coursework within the Medical Laboratory Technology associate of applied science degree are eligible to sit for the phlebotomy certification exam offered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP, 33 West Monroe, suite 1600, Chicago, IL 60603, 312-541-4999, www.ascp.org). The credential awarded upon successful completion of the exam is PBT (ASCP). They are also eligible to sit for the medical laboratory assistant certification exam offered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT, 10700 West Higgins, Suite 150, Rosemont, IL, 60018, 800-275-1268, www.amt1.com). The credential awarded upon successful completion of the exam is CMLA (AMT). A list of required coursework is listed below:
