Many of our students come to MTC with credits, education, and experience that they earned at other institutions or in the workplace. We make every effort to translate that knowledge into credits toward your MTC degree.
Advanced Placement (AP) Credit
Ohio high school students who score high enough on AP exams can earn college credit and/or course equivalencies. Elective credit may be awarded for other AP exams completed with a score of 3 or above in accordance with Ohio policy.
CLEP is an external credit-by-exam. Students may take this exam given by the College Board, the same organization that proctors the ACT.
Students can now take the CLEP exam on the MTC Campus in the Workforce Development Building. Students can click here for more details.
Credit by Proficiency Exam
If you have qualifications from previous education or job training, you may be able to earn credit in certain courses by passing an exam that tests your knowledge.
We offer two types of credit by proficiency exams: a college-administered exam and the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). If you demonstrate college-level competency on these exams, you can move on to more advanced work.
A credit-by-exam may be attempted only one time per course and there is a limit of credit hours that may be earned through exam and life experience. Before a credit-by-exam is taken, a nonrefundable fee of $15 per credit hour must be paid.
Ohio GI Promise
Military training, experience, and coursework of student service members will count for credit at MTC. We use the American Council on Education guide to translate military education into credit that, where possible, will count toward a student’s major or general education requirements.
Do you have previous education, military, or job training that may count for college credit? Contact us today for more information.
