Letter from a Parent to Parents...

Dear Parents:

I'm the parent of a high school sophomore who is just beginning to look at college options. Has your mailbox started to overflow with brochures, fliers, and letters from colleges? If not, just wait! I'm sure you will be as overwhelmed as we are starting to feel!

It's so exciting for the kids...look at all the wonderful photos of students on campus ... hanging out, playing sports, studying ... all the colleges look wonderful. Every time something new comes in the mail, we hear "Look at this! Isn't that cool? Oh, I like this one. I wanna go here!"

Then, me being the "mean mom" that I am, I start asking questions:  How much does it cost? What is their job placement rate? What kind of security do they have on campus? While my child doesn't think to look at these types of issues, I know all parents do. The order of the questions may be different, but we are all concerned about the same things in the long run.

If you look in the "Related Links" section at the top of this page, we have tried to provide you with information parents need to know. When you go through the MTC web site, you will find out that MTC is a good option for many reasons-

  • MTC is a good bargain. Tuition is lower than that at four-year colleges and universities.
  • The vast majority of MTC graduates find jobs in their field of study.
  • Campus crime statistics show very little crime on campus.
  • The Post-Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) program is a great option for high school students who want to start their college experience early.
  • MTC courses are very transferable to four-year Ohio colleges and universities.

As you click through our Web site, if you think of other information that would be helpful that we should include in this section, please let us know.

Good luck as you help your child in their college search!

Assistant to the President, Parent, MTC Grad and MTC Employee

WHY ATTEND A TWO-YEAR COLLEGE?
Find out why more students than ever are attending two-year community and technical colleges?  Two year colleges offer some of the most “in-demand college majors” in today’s job market and they have courses that will transfer toward a bachelor degree at a much lower cost.  It’s a great deal!  If you are a current HS student, contact us for a campus visit at www.mtc.edu

AA/AS COULD BE JUST THE TICKET
MTC offers two pre-bachelor degree programs for students planning for a 4 year degree. The Associate of Arts and Associate of Science offer options to compete a degree at MTC prior to transfer.  In addition, MTC has a number of transfer partners such as Heidelberg University for dual admission.

HS SCHOLARSHIPS INCREASE – Will you graduate in the top 50% of your class?
Marion Technical College recently increased our special scholarship awards for 2010 HS graduates.  The President’s (students in top 50% of their class) and College Tech Prep Scholarships will increase to $1,500 for qualified students. MTC’s Foundation Scholarship awards full tuition for one year to those in the top 5% of their graduating class.  Details and copies of the special scholarship application may be found online at:
http://www.mtc.edu/FinancialAid/ScholarshipInformation.html

GETTING TO KNOW MTC
MTC has posted a new video on-line Orientation Reference Guide . While this is primarily for new students, it does explain many resources available to students. In addition, there is an Interactive Campus Map.  Check out the new online services and let us know what you think.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTING (OTA) TO BEGIN SOON
Pending final accreditation approval, MTC hopes to enroll our first OTA class fall, 2010 or winter, 2011.  This is a limited enrollment program with excellent career opportunities. MTC has had a long history of quality allied health majors. The deadline for application is April 30, but interested students should begin now to prepare for admission. Contact us at enroll@mtc.edu for details or visit the OTA Home Page.
