Ryan Schneider found success way before he found his love for Engineering Technology. At age 15, Ryan was taking Post-Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) courses through MTC. He tried Kent State University after high school but decided that the college he wanted to attend was local …. it was Marion Technical College.
Schneider knew early that he wanted to be an engineer. “I liked to draw and build things with Lego’s as a little kid.” While in high school, he job-shadowed an engineer in Columbus who was creating something in a 3D software program which Schneider thought was “really cool.” “I decided to take a 3D modeling class and then I was hooked,” he said.
Now, Schneider is a draftsman at a company in Michigan that hand picks students from Marion Technical College on a regular basis. He chose drafting because he knew he didn’t want to do math every day. He works closely with the engineers in his firm. “Engineers envision and test. As a drafter, I put the ideas on paper to make sure it works and is visually sound,” Schneider said.
At the ripe age of 21, Schneider has already moved up the ladder with a promotion which brought him more money, more responsibility and a few employees.
Did MTC prepare him for his current career? Schneider says, “YES! I was more ready than I expected to be. Jennie Shaffer was a great teacher and cheerleader for me and all of my classmates.”
