College wasn’t Murray’s first choice as a post-high school option. He was young, energetic, charismatic and thought he could climb the ladder of success on those traits – and he probably could have – but
Kasmenn quickly realized that he needed (and wanted) more. He knew he wanted more for himself and MTC had exactly what he needed.
Kasmenn put his energetic style to good use upon joining the student body at MTC. He was a founding and active member of a
campus group called Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE). This group’s mission was to develop an understanding of economics and they competed nationwide with similar groups from the university setting. While Kasmenn was a member, they traveled to competitions in New York and brought home first place; the next year they won second place in Texas. “We had a lot of fun in that group and we did a lot of good, too,” Kasmenn recalls of the experience.
Murray received a business degree from Marion Technical College and that was all he needed to catapult himself to a successful career. Kasmenn worked for the Marion Star right out of college and fell in love with the publishing industry. He found an opportunity as a sales representative for a national magazine selling national advertising in Atlanta, Georgia. It was a career move he could not refuse and he has been building off of that move ever since. While employed at the magazine, Kasmenn grew his accounts and his territory. He worked his way up the ladder and managed all aspects of the publishing company which included multiple national publications, conferences/events, and digital media.
Again, Murray’s adrenaline to achieve
kicked in and he developed a service for the company’s advertisers that tracked leads, generated leads, and produced a tangible return on investment for clients. The value-added program quickly took off and Kasmenn soon spun off to create his own business with the company he worked for being his first client.
Murray is now the President of Intelligent Data Services, Inc. (http://www.idsadvantage.com) in Atlanta, Georgia, and feels very satisfied with where his life’s journeys have taken him. “Marion Technical College was the first step in getting me focused and guiding me forward. Life is a journey. If you are not trying to grow yourself, set goals, and be inspired, then you are selling yourself short,” Kasmenn says.
He has words of wisdom for those thinking about college and current students. “It’s really important to have a game plan, set goals, and realize that life tends to throw us curve balls so be flexible with yourself and be prepared for change, but don’t ever sell yourself short by not exploring your options. And if you are a current student, get involved,” is the advice that Kasmenn shares.
Kasmenn admits that though he is far from Marion, Ohio, he will always have a “soft spot” for his hometown. On the occasions when he does get to come home to see
family, “It’s a great feeling.”
