ASAP Stands for Family!
What do you find when you walk into the classroom of the Business Management Adult Student Accelerated Program (ASAP) on a Wednesday night? Fun. Camaraderie. Friendship. Family. Oh, yeah – and learning!
The ASAP program is more than a program designed to help students fit college into their already busy lives with classes on campus only one night per week. It is a way to stay inspired, stay focused and reach the ultimate goal of graduation – ON TIME … WITH FRIENDS! It’s called a cohort, or here at MTC, it’s called “family.”
The ASAP programs are offered in a cohort-based model in which students advance together through a sequence of core courses leading to graduation. Everyone starts together, everyone ends together – that’s the concept – and it appears to be working.
These ASAP students are a pilot group of students who are the first to experience this type of setting on the MTC campus, and the results have been exceptional. The classroom has a different vibe the minute you walk in the door. The students are bantering back and forth, laughing and talking – it is like Thanksgiving dinner, without the turkey. This group is now family and they will be there for each other until the end. The ASAP students are looking forward to their graduation day in 2009. This cohort group has been so successful that MTC has just launched a new ASAP program in the field of Criminal Justice. It’s a great way to learn, stay on track, and stay focused – and if a student thinks about slacking off, the “family” will not let it happen!
