MTC Academic Computer Lab
Marion Technical College is proud of its academic computer capabilities. We offer the student a wide range of opportunities through the use of many of today’s most modern technologies. Everything from video conferencing and wireless networking to online courses are available to our students. We take pride in the fact that we use the most up-to-date software from some of the biggest names in the business.
The Open Academic Computer Lab has 19 workstations available to currently enrolled MTC students and faculty. Three of these stations are designed with the physically challenged in mind as are some workstations in each of the classrooms. For those students who are visually challenged, we offer larger monitors on some of the workstations in the classrooms and open lab.
As part of our commitment to you, we shall continue to offer every possible convenience to our students. Problems arise when someone attempts to use this new technology in an inappropriate manner. We have enacted the following as guidelines to enhance the learning experiences of our many and varied students and faculty. We hope your learning experiences with Marion Technical College will be pleasant ones both now and in the future.

Academic Computer Lab Technician / Supervisor
RULES AND REGULATIONS
- Food and Drink are strictly prohibited around the computers in both the classrooms and labs.
- The equipment is extremely expensive to replace and a real nuisance to do without if something happens to it. We try our best to keep these computers and the other technology in good working order for your use. It only takes one accident to ruin it for many students.
- Children are not permitted in the classrooms and labs. Children cannot help themselves when it comes to technology; they just have to touch everything. While they are sometimes fun to watch, they can be a real distraction to other students in the classroom environment. Please consider others who are trying to study before bringing your children to MTC.
- No Downloading of Software. We request that you refrain from downloading software to these computers. While we want you to feel at home using this technology, you must remember that what you do to them affects many other students. Please be considerate. This also includes chat room software. This software is a real convenience when it comes to communicating with friends and family but it can also be a problem when it comes packed with viruses or is used for other illegal reasons.
- Pornography, Hate, and Persecution Sites Prohibited. What we may enjoy personally, others might not find so enjoyable. We realize that you may be doing research on a specific topic for a class. If this is the case, please let someone know prior to your accessing the sites. We can make accommodations for you as long as you can prove the validity of the assignment. Otherwise, visit these sites in the privacy of your home.
- Gambling and e-Commerce Sites Prohibited. We do not have a gambling license through the State of Ohio nor are we in the retail trade. You are here for the sole purpose of learning not buying or trading.
- Be Prepared to Leave the Lab (if you are not doing class work).
We do not mind if you are between classes and want to come in and relax by playing a game or two. If someone needs access to a computer and all of the workstations are in use, you will be asked to vacate the workstation.
- No Cell Phones in the Open Lab or Classrooms. We ask that you turn off your cell phones when working in the open lab or attending a class unless you are working as an emergency worker. You may be creating a disturbance to the other students in your class.
