Allied Health Programs
Medical Office Administration

A physician's office or hospital department office can be a hectic environment. Documents and information from multiple sources is processed, reported, disseminated, and stored for a wide variety of end-users such as consultants, billing agencies, insurance companies, other physicians and specialists, and patients themselves.

The major emphasis of the Medical Office Administration program is to prepare graduates to enter the job market (or advance within a health care organization) and provide superior clerical and administrative support to the health care office environment.

Graduates of this program receive the Associate of Applied Business degree in Office Information - Medical Office Administration Major.

Medical Sciences Mission Statement:

To provide allied health students with a personal and professional learning centered education.

Career Opportunities:

In the U.S., about 408,000 individuals currently work in this support field. National job opportunities for Medical Office Administrative graduates can expect above average growth of between 9 percent and 17 percent through 2016; Ohio projects a 13 percent growth trend.

Certification Information:
Students who complete MTC’s Medical Office Administration major are eligible to sit for the certification exam offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC, 2480 South 3850 West, Suite B, Salt Lake City, Utah 84120, 800-626-2633, www.aapc.com).  Graduates typically pursue either the Certified Professional Coder Apprentice (CPC-A), or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital Apprentice (CPC-H-A), or Certified Professional Coder-Payer Apprentice (CPC-P-A).   When the required coding work experience is met, the apprentice may apply for full certification.
