Medical Assistant ATS Degree
Limited Enrollment Program

Although some of the basic information is generally the same for both Medical Assisting Certificate (one year) and the Medical Assistant (ATS) Degree (two year).  The Medical Assistant (ATS) Degree gives the student a broader knowledge base and earns them an Associate of Technical Studies Degree.  According to the U.S. Department of Labor, "The earnings of medical assistants vary, depending on their experience, skill level, and location."  Students who have completed the MA Certificate Program might find it advantageous to continue on and complete the MA Degree.

Communication is a key component in the health care equation, but sometimes physicians and patients experience a gap. Medical Assistants, allied health practitioners who perform a wide range of clinical and administrative duties, often serve as a critical bridge in the communication process between health care professionals and the general public.

Medical Sciences Mission Statement:
To provide allied health with a personal and professional learning centered education.

Career Opportunities:

Medical Assisting is one of the ten fastest growing occupations, expecting more than 35 percent growth nationally through the year 2012; Ohio projects a 47 percent [or more] increase in job opportunities for this field through 2010.

Sixty percent of Medical Assisting jobs are in physicians' offices, while another 15 percent are hospital positions.

Naturally, the duties of a Medical Assistant vary from office to office depending on such factors as staff size, office location, and medical specialty. In smaller office situations, you may be required to handle a wider range of administrative and clinical duties, whereas in a larger office, the traditional Medical Assistant may specialize in one area or function. This career ‘‘variety'' is very attractive to many people when targeting potential job opportunities.

With additional course work, Medical Assistants may enter more advanced health occupations.
