L.P.N. to R.N.
Program Curriculum

MTC wants to prepare you - men and women with working experience as Licensed Practical Nurses (L.P. N.s) - for challenging and rewarding careers as Registered Nurses through a unique L.P.N.-To-R.N. Transition Program.

L.P.N.s who want to earn an associate degree in Nursing (R.N.) Technology may receive up to 73 hours of college credit upon successfully completing Excelsior College  or Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) examinations, certain proficiency tests, and MTC’s NUR1040A (Transition) course. It’s the perfect way to make your work experience count!

Studying Nursing (R.N.) Technology at MTC combines lecture, small group and laboratory studies and demonstrations, and a variety of clinical learning experiences. Classroom ratios in beginning courses are approximately 10 students to one instructor to provide optimal student support.

Because many participants in the L.P.N. Transition Program are working, individuals may take up to five (5) years to complete the program. Graduates are then eligible to take the licensing examination of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse (R.N.).

Admission Requirements

Admission to the L.P.N. Transition Program is in accordance with current Nursing policies. Applicants must submit a completed Nursing Program application after the following items are received by MTC:

  1. Final high school transcript (or GED results).
  2. Completed MTC Application for Admission (including nonrefundable application fee).
  3. Official Excelsior transcript for Fundamentals of Nursing Test (#403) with a “C” or better.
  4. Official Excelsior transcript for Maternal/Child Test (#453) with a “C” or better.
    • This requirement can also be met by completing NUR1030A (Foundations in Health of Women
and Children) at MTC and an ACT score of 15; the ACT score must be received prior to registration for NUR1030A.
  5. American College Test (ACT) results (minimum score of 15).
      • This requirement is waived for L.P.N.s who have successfully passed both Excelsior nursing tests.
  6. A 2.0 accumulative GPA is the minimum for acceptance/continuation.
  7. Validation of current Ohio L.P.N. license.
  8. Official college and/or L.P.N. School transcripts.
  9. Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening prior to entry into NUR1040A Transition.
