In the modern workplace you often hear, the phrase ‘‘information is power’’. The reality is, the power in information is the ability to manipulate and transfer data – and that’s where the Computer Service and Network Technician finds him- or herself invaluable.

This particular training option is referred to as an Associate of Technical Study degree, or ATS. ATS plans are created when a student has a unique employment objective that isn’t a ‘‘perfect match’’ for an existing MTC academic program. ATS programs combine courses and training from two or more programs to meet students’ specific needs.

The Computer and Service Network Technician program is an established amalgam of engineering, business, and IT training. Established ATS programs are called OPTION I. Students requiring a truly unique career pathway may choose to develop an OPTION II program. This option requires a separate application and meeting with your advisor and/or appropriate academic personnel. Guidelines and a worksheet for selecting your courses, and an application form for the program, are available from the Office of Admission.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

• analyze computing needs and design systems that meet the needs of individual and group users
• correct faults in hardware compatibility and component interconnectivity
• utilize computer-aided design (CAD) systems, circuit analysis skills, and basic electronics training to create system solutions as needed
• repair and maintain basic network structures (CISCO® and Windows NT focus)
• apply a complete knowledge of physics, mathematics, and communications skills when dealing with vendors and co- workers
• participate in procurement duties as it relates to both software and hardware purchases

To apply for acceptance into the Computer Service and Network Technician ATS program at MTC, applicants must have:

1. Completed and submitted the MTC Application for Admission and nonrefundable application fee.
   
2. Provided official final high school transcript (or GED results) and college transcripts (if applicable). With posted graduation date or passing GED results.
   
3. Completed the MTC Application for Financial Aid and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (optional).
   
4. Met with appropriate academic personnel and completed an Associate of Technical Study Degree application form.
5. Successful completion of the Basic Skills Assessment test (COMPASS) is highly recommended.

Transfer students to MTC must qualify in accordance with current admission criteria.
