Across the globe, businesses rely on accounting specialists (more than 2.1 million in the U.S. alone) to track financial transactions and perform a wide range of services that help maintain high levels of efficiency and profitability. At MTC, our associate degree program in Accounting Technology prepares graduates for positions with all types of companies and organizations.
The curriculum of MTC’s accounting program (six quarters of full-time study; individuals may complete the program as a part-time student over a longer time period) covers the four sectors of accounting: public, management, non-profit, and internal auditing. And because the size of an employer often dictates the type of accounting duties needed, MTC prepares its graduates for varying levels of challenge.
Students learn to prepare, analyze, and verify financial documents, post transactions in hard-copy ledgers and electronic financial databases, reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable expenditures, and prepare financial reports and summaries for supervisors and department administrators. With experience, responsibilities may extend into financial analysis and forecasting, tax preparation, payroll activities, investment planning, and more.
Graduates of this program will be awarded an Associate of Applied Business degree. After gaining some work experience, many graduates may investigate a bachelor’s degree program, as well as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. |
